Inca Trail Permits and Availability

Happy Gringo offer daily departures on the Inka Trail «excluding February when the Inca trail is closed».
It is strongly recommended to reserve your Inca Trek at least 4 months in advance as permits can quickly sell out. Therefore, the Inca Trail Peru is available to book from March 01st to January 31st every year.

Day 1
Day 1 Cusco – Km 82 – Ayapata

Early in the morning your guide will pick you up from your hotel with private transportation. Then we will drive to the trailhead, KM-82, there is a checkpoint where all travelers must show the passports. The first hours will be «Inca flat» to arrive at the Inca site of Llactapata. As we hike, you will see magnificent views of mountains along the way. After a few hours you arrive to the first lunch spot. After lunch, comes the first uphill but you will have ample time for breaks. Couple of hours later you  reach the first campsite Ayapata – Base camp

Day 2
Day 2 Ayapata - Dead Woman’s Pass - Chaquicocha

After an organic breakfast, we will take off towards the highest point of our journey, the famous «Dead Woman’s Pass» (4215 meters/13779 feet). The next leg will last approximately 4 hours, climbing through different microclimates with amazing views of the mountains. Afterward the highest point of the trek, you hike 2 hour downhill via the original Inca steps, which is very steep, arriving at the second lunch spot. After eating you will have 2 more hours uphill and 2 downhill, including stops at the Inca sites Runkurakay and Sayacmarca only 30 minutes away from the second campsite.

Day 3
Day 3 Chaquicocha – Phuyupatamarca - Wiñay Wayna

Start early to hike to the last pass of Phuyupatamarca. The best area to enjoy the flora and fauna of this inca trail expedition. Our lunch spot will be after 3 hours downhill hike by means of many Inca steps. Phuyupatamarca and Intipata chance to explore and see every single detail about these sites. After lunch take a longer nap to have an extra 10 minutes to walk to the most amazing site of the trek Winay Wayna. Tonight a small ceremony to tell thanks your amazing porters and the last time that you meet them.

Day 4
Day 4 Wiñay Wayna – Machu Picchu - Cusco

Today is the highlight of the trek as you head straight to the checkpoint to enter Machu Picchu. Once the site opens carry on to the Sun Gate to get your first fantastic view of Machu Picchu trek. On arrival to Machu Picchu Peru, you’ll have a 2 hour guided tour of the site, where you visit the most important sectors of the Citadel and free time to explore the ruins by yourself. In the afternoon you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo from where you will carry on by bus back to Cusco.
