Tour Details

Llactapata Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is one of our newest programs in the Cusco region. This is the best alternative to hiking the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

Llactapata in Quechua means a “high city” it played an important astronomical member of the network of interrelated administrative sites to the Incas.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu Town

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you through the Sacred Valley of Incas to Ollantaytambo. Here you will be boarding the train to Aguas Calientes.

At Aguas Calientes, our representative will be meeting you and will be transferring you to the hotel in town. You will have the evening to yourself. You can visit the hot springs in the town after which the town Aguas Calientes gets its name.

Later in the evening, our tour guide will be meeting you at the hotel and will be briefing you on the following day’s itinerary.

Day 2Machu Picchu Town - Hydroelectric - Llactapata

At 0645 AM, we will be taking a train from Aguas Calientes to Hydroelectric. This will be a 25 minutes ride. This is the same route that the renowned American Hiram Bingham took when he rediscovered Machu Picchu.

From Hydroelectric, we will be taking a van for an hour to Lucmabamba village along Santa Teresa. Here we will start hiking to Llactapata ruins. It normally takes three hours to reach the site.

Llactapata played an important astronomical function to Incas. This is also a prime stop for those on Inca Trail Trek. After a guided tour of Llactapata ruins we will stop for lunch at a site overlooking Machu Picchu. You will have the rest of the afternoon free to yourself.

We will be camping here for the night.

Day 3Llactapata - Aguas Calientes Town

Early in the morning, we will be serving you a typical organic meal for breakfast. We will hike down the hill for two and a half hours to Hidroelectrica. Here we will be serving you lunch.

After lunch, we will be hiking for another three hours through the railway tracks to Aguas Calientes.

At Aguas Calientes town, we will be accommodating you in an ensuite hotel room.

Day 4Machu Picchu Pueblo - Machu Picchu Citadel - Cusco

Early in the morning, we will be taking a bus to Machu Picchu citadel. It will be a 30 minutes drive up the hill. Our guide will assist you in clearing the security control and entering the citadel.

Once inside the citadel, you will be rewarded with a spectacular sight of the citadel while the clouds clearing by and the golden rays of the sun shimmering on the walls of Machu Picchu.

We will be giving you a two hours guided tour. After the tour, you will have some free time to explore the citadel on your own. If you have booked to hike Huayna Picchu or hike to Machu Picchu mountains, our guide will be directing you to the trail head.

Alternatively, you can hike to Sun gate or Intipunku. This is the entrance to the citadel for those on hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

After exploring Machu Picchu, you will be taking a bus back to Aguas Calientes. Here we will be serving lunch at a local restaurant. At around 04:00 PM, we will be taking a train back to Ollantaytambo.

Our representative will be meeting you on arrival and will be transferring you back to your hotel in Cusco. We will be returning to Cusco by 09:30 PM.
