  We had a dream of hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and were unable to get permit so ended up doing thjis. This is genuinely the best alternative as... read more it took us through some of the prominent Inca ruins before reaching Machu Picchu. The hike was very easier and there were seldom any people around so we could enjoy most sites at a complete solitude. Mauro is a remarkable tour guide with an excellent insight into the local traditions and Peruvian history. The accommodation in machu Picchu town was very comfortable. On the second day of the tour we had an immersive trip to Machu Picchu where Mauro explained us the prominence of each sites and how the Incas skillfully built the citadel to protect it from any natural calamities. All in all this was a perfect combination of fun, history and culture and truly a good value for money and time.

Everything else was a dumpster fire that had us waiting for two hours for a guide to show up (he stated he hadn’t been notified from the travel agency even though we went to the physical Happy Gringo location to check in the day before AND provided all requested information in person and again via WhatsApp). If we hadn’t reached out to them on WhatsApp, I’m certain we would have still been standing outside of the train station waiting. The information you get when you get to the Machu Picchu location is also confusing, telling you to go to a Pueblo, but when you look it up on the maps, there are several listed, which further added to the confusion. Very much underperformed our expectations for nearly $800.
Final thought, Machu Picchu is very much worth the visit, but not with this outfit.

  I bought the service at the very last minute, when other big tours could not provide the service due to insufficient participants (most people canceled for the political unrest that... read more happened in the second week of December). Juan Salas helped me to arrange the trip, and it was marvelous. He was very communicative, wrote down all itineraries and the instruction was very clear. The first day, it seems that I was assigned with people from other company but that's make sense given the situation that made it impractical to run the trip by only me as the participant. Then I was dropped in Ollantaytambo Station to Aguas Calientes station, where I was picked up by Ruben Salas, who will becoming my tour guide for Machu Picchu in the next day. Ruben was super chill, he knew that I was so tired that day and he gave everything he knew and dropped me in the hotel. During Machu Picchu trip, Ruben picked me up with other participant and, other than the greatest Machu Picchu itself, Ruben's guide service was beyond amazing! He was also a pro photographer, he took a lot of photos of us with perfect results! After the tour finished, he took us to the restaurant. As I was not able to continue the lunch because I was running for my train, Ruben walked me up to the station! Overall, I love the service, they are cheaper compares to the other big name tour service, but their qualities are something you can put on the table!
