Experience the best of the citadel of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu Mountain on this two-day Machu Picchu Huayna Picchu hike with our local tour guide.
Machu Picchu tops the bucket list of all travelers in South America. To enhance your experience, we have included a hike to Huayna Picchu mountain after a guided tour of the ruins of Machu Picchu citadel.
Huayna Picchu or Wayna Picchu in Quechua means “Smaller Peak”. It is named after its height, as it stands short of Machu Picchu mountain. The highest point of Huayna Picchu is 2693 meters above sea level (8924 feet).
It takes around two hours to reach the top, hike through 500-year-old Inca stone steps, and back to the citadel.
During the Inca civilization, Machu Picchu was prone to attacks from many rival groups. Huayna Picchu served as a military checkpoint. The Inca soldiers safeguarded their citadel from here. Huayna Picchu also houses many ruins. The popular one is the temple of the moon.
The two-day Machu Picchu tour with Wayna Picchu “Huayna Picchu” peak is a unique experience for enthusiastic travelers.
Reaching the top of Huayna Picchu is somewhat challenging. It would be best if you had a reasonable level of fitness. We don’t recommend this hike if you have a fear of heights. It would be best if you were acclimatized to avoid altitude sickness. You will get a panoramic view of the lost Inca City of Machu Picchu from the top of the mountain.
To hike Huayna Picchu, you will need a special permit, often sold out months in advance. However, the pictures from the summit are spectacular.
The region has two seasons: dry and wet. We highly recommend hiking Huayna Picchu during the dry season, between Mach and November. During the wet season, the trail becomes slippery and is quite risky.

This was an exceptional experience. We did the Sacred Valley tour with them before. Machu Picchu trip with Marko gave us a detailed insight to the Inca civilization. The citadel has a nice vibe, it is snuggled in between Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu mountain. We had an excellent time hiking to the top of Huayna Picchu. We highly recommend this tour and Marko.
