Witness the sunrise in Machu Picchu Citadel on our exclusive two-day Machu Picchu Sunrise Tour from Cusco.
Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, is on the bucket list of many travelers in South America. This two-day tour is tailored to offer you the best experience and make it memorable.
Witnessing the sunrise in the citadel is a rewarding experience that only a few enjoy. Accompanied by a local tour guide, you will gain a deeper insight into the history of this sacred Inca citadel.
If you wish to hike Huayna Picchu Mountain, please let us know when you book the tour. Only 200 people are allowed to hike Huayna Picchu Mountain in a day in two different time slots. This is to prevent the narrow trail from getting crowded.
We are a fully locally owned travel company based in Cusco city. Our guides were born and raised in Cusco and have extensive knowledge about the life and culture of the Incas.
Although Machu Picchu is open year-round, visiting the citadel during the dry season between March and November is best. The trails get slippery during the rainy season.
Few travelers want to be in Machu Picchu for sunrise before the crowds arrive from the Cusco day trip to Machu Picchu.
Do you want to have a tour of a lifetime? Happy Gringo’s two-day Machu Picchu sunrise trip is your gateway to an awe-inspiring experience. Get ready to witness the fantastic sunrise over Machu Picchu, visit the impressive Machu Picchu without the crowds, and enjoy the world’s wonder with few visitors.

0700 AM
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then, we will drive you in our private transport through the Sacred Valley of Incas to Ollantaytambo. Here, you will board the train to Aguas Calientes.
At Aguas Calientes, our representative will meet you and transfer you to the hotel in town. You will have the evening to yourself. You can visit the hot springs in the town, after which the town gets its name.
Later in the evening, our tour guide will meet you at the hotel and brief you on the following day’s itinerary.
The Machu Picchu tour starts with an early morning transfer from your hotel in Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu Citadel. It will be a 30-minute drive up the hill. Our guide will assist you in clearing the security control and entering the citadel.
Once inside the citadel, you will be rewarded with a spectacular sight of the citadel while the clouds clear and the golden rays of the sun shimmer on the walls of Machu Picchu.
We will give you a two-hour guided tour. After the tour, you will have some free time to explore the citadel on your own. If you have booked to hike Huayna Picchu or the Machu Picchu mountains, our guide will direct you to the trail head.
Alternatively, you can hike to Sun Gate or Intipunku. This is the entrance to the citadel for those on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu – this option is closed for the moment.
After exploring Machu Picchu, you will take a bus back to Aguas Calientes. Here, we will serve lunch at a local restaurant. At around 04:00 PM, we will take a train back to Ollantaytambo.
Our representative will meet you upon arrival and will transfer you back to your hotel in Cusco. We will be returning to Cusco by 07:00 PM
It is mandatory to have a guide to enter Machu Picchu citadel. So the best option will be signing up for a tour. We as a local tour operator do operate an exclusive Machu Picchu Sunrise Tour that lets you enter the citadel at sunrise.
You will be taking a bus from Aguas Calientes at around 0500 AM so you can reach the citadel before sunrise. The tour typically begins early in the morning as the doors of Machu Picchu opens to visitors.
Although you will get an excellent view of Sunrise both from Sungate (Intipunu) and Huayna Picchu, on a regular tour you will get to see te sunrise from the entrance of Machu Picchu citadel. You will get a nice view from the top of the terraces.
To see sunrise from Intipunku you will need to signup for Inca Trail and you won’t be able to make it to the summit of Huayna Picchu mountain that early.
We booked this tour after we did city tour with them, barely 24 hours before It was organised exceptionally well in such a short notice. Marko the tour guide was beyond the best.
