Pick up from you hotel to take the bus to Cachora village, where the hike starts onto Apurimac canyon. On the way we have beautiful landscapes, amazing view points, the huge dry valley spread out throughout the day and wide variety of flora and fauna. Then comes the delicious lunch in the middle of the canyon. The campsite for tonight is in Santa Rosa at 2200 m / 7215 ft. is on the other side of Apurimac river. It is the quietest and beautiful spot around us without distractions
After breakfast, we have uphill hike to Marampata approx. 4 hours which is the hardest part of the day. Today we have amazing views, in the middle of variety of flora such as bambooies, bromelias, orchids, etc. with some luck we get to see Condors flying on the Apurimac canyon. The lunch is in Marampata Quechua village, after lunch we have 2 more hours to arrive our campsite Choquequirao at 3050 m / 10,005 ft.
After breakfast, you have the guided tour in the citadel, visiting the most important sectors of Choquequirao site, then you have free time to explore on your own which is bigger than Machu Picchu. After the walking tour comes the lunch in order to continue with our hike of 4 hours to the next campsite Pinchinuyoc at 2487 m / 8160 ft. which is warm place.
Today, we carry on down into the valley to reach the river far below. During the dry season the river is perfect to have a refreshing bath to ease the tired muscles. After swimming we will continue our way back up the opposite side of the valley. Along the walk there is amazing views, native plants, native birds, etc. then comes the organic lunch, after lunch we go heading for our campsite Maizal spectacular place.
After organic breakfast, we will start hiking on the way to Yanama small Quechua Community. Along the hike the views is once again amazing, the variety of native plants and hummingbirds, the path pass by abandoned silver mine from colonial time and walk along “The great original Inca Road” to lunch point.
Tonight the campsite is at Yanama village 3520 m / 11549 ft. where we will spend the night in one of the land of local family. (Chance to visit their house to learn about their daily living and traditions).
Today, we begin to make the way back up out of the valley as we head for the highest point on the trek. The summit is at 4840 m / 15879 ft. having been hiking through most lush dry valleys up to this point, you will notice the scenery that changes to the high puna, where grows only straw “andean grass” as we head to the summit. After enjoying the fantastic views from the top, the trail leads back down to warm climate again in order to join to Salkantay road at Colpapampa campsite at 2900 m / 9514 ft. where we stay overnight.
After breakfast, we hike down the for 4 hours to the village as known “La Playa” where we have the lunch, along the walk we get to see, water falls, coffee and fruit plantations, etc. After lunch we have another 3 hours of hiking to the most beautiful campsite of the expedition, Llactapata right in front of Machu Picchu amazing place to enjoy the sunset and walk around the Inca site.
After healthy breakfast, we will explore the Inca site of Llactapata, then we have the final stretch of the trek before to reach Aguas Calientes town at the base of Machu Picchu citadel. Today we’ll hike downhill for 3 hours before to get the lunch place Hydroelectric. After lunch we will follow the train track to Aguas Calientes, where we spend the last night in a hotel.
Breakfast in the hotel, we will start very early in the morning in order to take the first bus back up to Machu Picchu to visit the site, where you have the 2 hours of guided tour, during this walking tour, we will explore the most important temples of the citadel. Then you’ll have free time to walk around the site on your own. In the afternoon you will have the train back to Ollantaytambo, where you catch the bus back to Cusco
