Discover Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world, on a full-day adventure to the famous floating islands of Uros. Meet local families, learn about their ancient reed island traditions, and enjoy breathtaking views across the deep blue waters of this iconic Andean destination.
Your adventure begins with hotel pickup in Puno at approximately 7:15 am, followed by a transfer to the main port. From here, we board a comfortable speedboat and set off across the legendary Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. During the ride, your guide will share fascinating insights about the lake’s history, geography, and cultural significance.
Our first stop is the unique floating islands of the Uros, located at 3,812 meters above sea level. Here, we visit a local family who will introduce us to their traditional way of life.
Learn how the islands are constructed using totora reeds and discover how the Uros people use this plant for housing, transportation, and daily living. You will also hear about traditional fishing techniques for species such as carachi and pejerrey. Today, the Uros community maintains around 100 floating islands.
For those interested, there is an optional ride on a traditional totora reed boat (additional cost).
We then continue sailing for about one hour to Taquile Island, rising to 3,905 meters above sea level. Upon arrival, we enjoy a scenic walk along stone paths, passing agricultural terraces and traditional archways while taking in panoramic views of the lake.
At the island’s central area, your guide will introduce you to local Taquile families. Here, you will learn about their customs, music, and especially their world-renowned textile traditions, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
A local family will prepare a traditional lunch using regional ingredients. After lunch, you will have free time to relax, shop for handmade crafts, or simply admire the stunning landscapes.
After descending back to the dock, we board our speedboat for the return journey across Lake Titicaca. We arrive at the main port of Puno around 4:00 pm, followed by transfer back to your hotel.
