How to Eat Before and After an Ayahuasca Ceremony
Proper preparation is essential for a safe and meaningful Ayahuasca experience. The way you eat before and after the ceremony directly influences how your body and mind respond to the medicine.
Before the Ceremony
We recommend beginning your preparation at least 7 days before the retreat.
The purpose of this preparation is to gently detoxify your body and calm your nervous system so you can work with the medicine in a balanced way.
Avoid the following substances:
Alcohol
Recreational drugs
Tobacco
Coffee and stimulants
Chocolate
Processed foods
Red meat and pork
Spicy foods
Refined sugar and excess salt
Artificial additives and preservatives
Recommended diet:
Light, natural meals
Fresh fruits and vegetables
Whole grains
White meat such as chicken or fish (preferably grilled or boiled)
Plenty of water
Fish is often recommended due to its nutritional support for the nervous system.
You should eat a light and healthy dinner the night before the ceremony.
On the day of the retreat, participants must fast completely. Only water is allowed unless otherwise instructed.
After the Ceremony
Following the ceremony, the body remains sensitive and open.
We recommend:
Continuing with light meals
Avoiding alcohol and processed foods for several days
Eating simple foods such as vegetables, rice, soups, or light proteins
Drinking plenty of water
Many participants resume eating the next day around midday with a simple, natural meal.
Maintaining a clean diet after the ceremony helps integrate the experience more clearly.
